WOMEN IN SOCIETY: A PEDAGOGICAL PROPOSAL FOR DISCOURSE RECONSTRUCTION
Abstract
The language and meanings of words are not random conventions. They represent the prevailing and dominant ideology in society and bring with them a historical perspective of power. No wonder, for example, that the word gender is so debated/disputed in society, between a fallacy called "gender ideology", considered as an indoctrination that aims to destroy the Brazilian family, and gender equality, which constitutes fight for equal rights between women/girls and men/boys. Understanding the meaning of the word gender, its cultural and historical origin is essential for us to understand that gender discrimination is socially constructed, based on machismo and misogyny, and not biologically. In this same perspective, there is a naturalization of taking the words work and employment as synonyms, thus devaluing more and more reproductive work, which is most often performed by women, which generates an accumulation of working hours and, in some cases, it restricts their performance to the invisible private/domestic space. In this paper, we present these concepts and discuss, based on some practices carried out by us, a possibility of pedagogical intervention in school spaces, based on these concepts, in order to clarify and enable more dialogues about gender equality. We do not centralize the work on the description of the pedagogical intervention, but on concepts that we deem essential to be discussed, so that each educator can rethink it for their work spaces.
