Vol 10 No 1 (2026): DOSSIER: TERRITORIES AND THEIR CONTEMPORARY CONFIGURATIONS (PT. 1)

In this issue, LexCult, the journal of the Federal Regional Court of the 2nd Region (TRF2), presents the dossier “Territories and Their Contemporary Configurations”. Territory is understood here as more than the physical delimitation of space: following Milton Santos, it is a social construction shaped by relations of power, identity and appropriation, marked by relations that are at once complementary and conflicting. Inequalities in access to resources, services and rights, the environmental crisis and different forms of social, technological and institutional vulnerability form the backdrop of the contributions gathered here.

The issue opens with an editorial by Douglas Vieira Barboza and María Paz Acuña and brings together fifteen articles. Some of them examine socio-environmental conflicts and the protection of traditional peoples and communities, with studies on Indigenous lands in Roraima, the Waimiri-Atroari territory, quilombola communities in the case law of the Brazilian Supreme Federal Court (STF), mining in the Carajás region and the conflicts associated with oil and urbanization in Maricá (RJ). Others address climate governance, government plans and regional development, rural microcredit, smart cities, health and demographic dynamics. A third group turns to the digital and institutional dimensions of territory, such as geopricing and geoblocking, urban surveillance technologies, decision-making equality within the territory of jurisdiction and international family mediation.

Through theoretical, empirical and interdisciplinary approaches, the dossier offers input for reflecting on the implications of territorial transformations for rights, public policy, sustainability and governance. Enjoy the reading!
